  solutions | Security Surveillance

ComCam is addressing these concerns for a growing number of small businesses in the West Chester, PA, area. Two representative experiences suggest a range of solutions that can be extended to others small businesses.

Front-door monitoring: A local vendor sought to create a video record of everyone who entered and exited his establishment so as to monitor both daily traffic and off-hours security. To this end, ComCam employed one of its low-cost cameras, ComCam-10/FL [for Fixed Lens] with motion-detection capabilities, to monitor all in-and-out traffic. Motion detection combined with ComCam’s proprietary Wavelet compression methodology permitted the recording of only actual in-and-out activity and did so with an enormous reduction in total video storage space requirements -- e.g., approximately 20 Mbyts per day whereas JPEG/MPEG would require three to five times as much storage. In addition, to enhance the off-hours security monitoring function, the ComCam solution provided – in addition to a video record – instant alarm-notification via pager, cell or other device if an unauthorized person was detected.

Cash-register surveillance: A local retailer had a strong suspicion that one or more of his employees was helping him/her-self to cash intended for the register. In order to help combat this theft, ComCam installed a dome-ceiling camera over the cash register to monitor all transactions. Providing this video watchdog, theft decreased to nearly zero.

To these and other small businesses, ComCam offers a second service as part of its overall solution. ComCam operates an exclusive Internet-based digital video recorder (DVR) service, VideoLocker®, for data storage and management. In this way, the recorded video can be stored both onsite and off-site, on a ComCam server, so as to protect against theft of original video in case of a break-in or other vandalism as well as provide IT assistance to the business.
